Bio:
John DeCaro returns back to the Sheffield Steelers for a second year ahead of the 2012-13 Elite League season.
DeCaro led the Steelers to the runners up position in the 2011-12 season with a 92.1% saves percentage and a goals against average of just 2.56
Having studied at the University of Alaska-Anchorage DeCaro turned pro in 2006 playing just 6 games for the Alaska Aces in the East Coast Hockey League
The following season John moved to the CHL (Central Hockey League) where he started 35 games for Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, also being called up to play 2 further games for the Philladelphia Phantoms in the American Hockey League.
The 07-08 season saw DeCaro register a 94% saves percentage in his second season with the Mudbugs, a season that earned him a move to Las Vegas the following year. His form for the Wranglers was equally impressive, a 93% saves percentage during the 08-09 campaign. That season saw another spell in the AHL with Portland, 3 starts averaging less than 3 goals a game against.
DeCaro then moved back to his former club in Bossier-Shreveport where he spent two seasons, the latter (11-12) saw DeCaro lift the CHL play off trophy.
After his first year with the Steelers a move to Norway followed for the 12-13 season, however mid way through the summer Big John had a change of mind deciding instead to return to Sheffield and another crack at the Elite League championship.
Head coach Ryan Finnerty on DeCaro "He is a quality goalie, person and leader for our hockey club. It's the view of many that our team perhaps over achieved in 11-12 and a big reason for that was the form of Johnny. He did what any coach wants his goalie to do and that is give his team a chance to win every night. I was disappointed when he advised me he was going to Norway in the summer and then delighted to take a call some weeks later saying that he had made a mistake and wished to return.
"Johnny is a proven winner, I believe in him and his ability to deliver another championship this coming season"
