Champagne Signs for the Steelers.

Sheffield Steelers have confirmed the signing of Scott Champagne from the Belfast Giants

Champagne flew into Sheffield yesterday (Wednesday) and will practise with his new team mates today (Thursday) before flying back into Belfast on Saturday for the all important league game between the Steelers and the Giants.

"It's a signing we have been trying to make for some time" said Steelers head coach Ryan Finnerty "We see Scott as the perfect fit for what we are looking for. Someone who will compliment Jeff Legue on our big line and someone who will help our power-play as well

"Legue was instrumental in Champagne agreeing to sign, they both come from the same town and have grown up together. They know each others game inside out"

Champagne scored 15 points in 18 games for the Belfast this season. The Steelers moved for the Giants forward after Colin Shields had moved in the opposite direction two weeks ago

"I'm excited by the move" said Champagne "I had several options and did take my time to way them all up. I chose Sheffield because they are a winning franchise. I'm positive we can put a run together and give this league title a real shot as well as the Challenge Cup and play off's

"The Steelers team is an excellent one and I know I'm moving to a first class organisation. I know Jeff Legue well and I can't wait to play alongside him. We know each other well and I'm sure we can build an excellent partnership together, we will compliment each other I know that"
