Don’t Rush Finner – The 5 of Us are good enough

The Elite Leagues most experienced player, current Iron Man, Mark Thomas today urged his coach not to rush into signing the clubs final player ahead of the new season

With yesterdays announcement that Shawn Limpright would complete the forward roster, Finnerty is left with just one defenceman to sign. The Steelers coach also confirmed that if he couldn’t find the right guy he would have no issue with starting the season one player shy. Something Thomas also believes is the right approach

“Ryan knows what he is doing, he has showed that all summer long with the signings he has made to date. The five D men we have right now are all good enough to hold the fort for a week or two until the best guy available comes up

“Finner has done too good a job with the signings to date to throw all that work down the drain just to sign a guy because he is available, much better to wait it out and end up with a guy who will help us win

“Our D is stronger than last season already with Jim Jorgensen and Danny Meyers coming. Rod Sarich is back to full strength after that terrible injury last season and Matt Stephenson is pure quality and a real leader on the blue line.

“I guess I will fit in there as well, just in case there is an overtime winner that needs scoring!

“Our first few league games are really tough, two with Cardiff then two with Coventry so I can see why Finner wants the team complete for the training came and exhibition games. I understand his thinking fully, however if the right guys aren’t available then the message from the 5 of us is – have faith and have trust, we wont let you down – better to have the right guy for 50 games than the wrong one for 56”
