Leeb Suspended for Hewitt Sucker Punch

Following the news yesterday that the Elite League were reviewing the Brad Leeb sucker punch incident at Saturdays game between the Steelers and the Coventry Blaze the league has made the following decision, suspending Leeb for 3 (three) games.

--------------

Coventry Blaze forward Brad Leeb has received a three-match ban for his sucker punch during his side’s challenge match at Sheffield Steelers on Saturday 1st September 2012.

The tariff for this penalty carries an automatic three-match ban and, after a review by the disciplinary committee, they have decided to uphold the penalty.

Head of discipline, Simon Kirkham, said: “I have reviewed the video and received reports from the referee and two linesman and I agree with the initial penalty call.

“It is important to clamp down on unsavoury incidents and the officials will be as vigilant as ever throughout the season in assuring that these incidents are penalised.”

Leeb will miss three matches (listed below), one of which has already been served.

Sunday 2nd September 2012 – Coventry Blaze v Sheffield Steelers (already served)
Wednesday 5th September 2012 – Coventry Blaze v Cardiff Devils
Saturday 8th September 2012 – Dundee Stars v Coventry Blaze

------------

The Rapid Solicitors Elite League disciplinary committee will review an incident involving Coventry forward Brad Leeb in Blaze's challenge match at Sheffield Steelers on Saturday 1st September 2012.

Leeb was assessed a match penalty for a sucker punch in the second period.

The committee will now, as is mandatory, review the incident and report on its findings within the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, no action will be taken by the Rapid Solicitors Elite League discipline committee following the incident in Wednesday night's (29th August) challenge match between Cardiff Devils and Coventry Blaze regarding a hit by Max Birbraer on Jerraime Domish.

The Blaze did not want to proceed with the official supplementary discipline procedure and therefore the incident will not be looked at.

Head of discipline, Simon Kirkham, said: "There are strict rules in place regarding the discipline procedure and these will be reinforced to all 10 Elite League clubs."
