Diffley Returns for a Fourth Season in Orange

Steelers Blue Line Bolstered

The Sheffield Steelers are delighted to confirm that defenceman Brien Diffley will return for the 2026-27 Elite League season, extending his stay in Sheffield to a fourth year.

Diffley first joined the Steelers ahead of the 2023-24 campaign from Danish side Odense Bulldogs and immediately became a key part of the club’s historic Grand Slam-winning season.

Since arriving in Sheffield, “Diff” has gone on to make 204 appearances for the Steelers, recording 14 goals and 66 assists for 80 points from the blue line.

Steelers Head Coach Aaron Fox was delighted to secure the return of the popular defenceman.

“Bringing Diff back was a no-brainer for me.

“He was our most effective and consistent defenceman until his injury last year. Diff played through it when he came back down the stretch and will be fully healthy by the time camp starts.

“He’s a smooth-skating puck mover with an elite stick defensively and is a locker-room favourite.

“I love that he’s back for another year and expect him to be a big-time contributor. He’s a core guy who is here for the right reasons.”

Speaking from Las Vegas, where he is currently working at a professional hockey school while also taking in the Stanley Cup Final, Diffley said he is excited to be returning to South Yorkshire.

“I’m really pleased to be returning for a fourth season in Sheffield. The city and surrounding area feel like a second home to me now, and the people have certainly played a huge part in making it feel that way.

“I also believe there is some unfinished business here. Two years without a trophy is too long for a club with the history and expectations of the Sheffield Steelers, so we have to be focused on putting that right in the season ahead.

“I’m confident, after speaking with Aaron, that we will once again have a team capable of challenging for every trophy on offer. I want to play a big role in that and help bring championship success back to Sheffield where it belongs.”

With more than 200 appearances already to his name and three successful seasons in Orange behind him, Diffley remains an important part of Aaron Fox’s plans as the Steelers look to challenge on all fronts once again in 2026-27.
