Steelers need just 1 point to secure top place in the group with Cardiff having already played all but one of their challenge cup games and tied on 12 points.
If the Steelers were to go down to Manchester on Wednesday they would fall into 3rd place in the standings due to the fact that Guildford have 4 regulation wins to the Steelers 3. Steelers would then play in the Qualification game with the runners up in the Northern group.
The Nottingham Panthers however are eliminated after tonights game as the Panthers have 5 wins to the Steelers 6.
