6’2 Defensemen Brien Diffley has been added to the Steelers roster for the 20-23-24 EIHL season.
Diffley joins from Danish side Odense Bulldogs, having previously played in France (Clergy-Pontoise) and the ECHL (Wheeling, Manchester and Greenville)
Announcing the deal head coach Aaron Fox said “Brien is a 6’2 two way defenseman that will make a huge impact in our group.
“He plays a very solid game in his own end and he has got a physical edge to him, he gets stops in the Dzone and his gap control and close out ability are excellent.
Brien’s skating is at an Elite level so his puck retrievals and ability to join the rush will be a huge asset to how we want to play as 5.
“I’m really looking forward to how his game translates in the UK but I think he is going to be a guy that we look at as one of our key signings of the summer”.
Diffley described himself as “Super Excited” at joining the Steelers “Straight from the beginning Sheffield looked a great option for me” he said “Steelers just caught my eye, everything from the arena, training rink and the huge fan base
“I had options in the summer, I had a really good year in Denmark and enjoyed it there. I weighed everything up though and Sheffield stood out
“Speaking with Aaron I like the way the team is looking and believe we are ready to win now, there seems a great deal of experience of guys who have played in both Europe and back home”
Diffley described his style of play saying he hoped to “bring the offence, I’m a good skater, I think that is my strongest asset. I make a good first pass or I can skate the puck out, I can join the rush as the 3rd or 4th guy and hopefully, as I say bring some offence”
Brien Diffley will wear #65 for the Steelers this season and will make his debut on Saturday 9th September against Nottingham Panthers in the clubs first home game of the season at the Utilita Arena.
