More history around the corner as Dowdy commits for 2 more years.
The Sheffield Steelers are delighted to confirm that Captain, Robert Dowd has signed a new two-year contract meaning he will be with the club to at least the end of 2027-28 EIHL season.
Dowd is already the clubs highest ever goal scorer (383), he trails the clubs all time points record of Ron Shudra by just 4 (Dowd 788 and Shudra 792).
Only the previous club captain Jonathan Phillips has iced more games for the Steelers than Robert Dowd; Phillips played 1,042 in his time with the club with Dowdy just 108 behind on 936.
“The only numbers I’m really interested in are trophies” said Dowdy “and I’m confident after speaking with both Aaron and Tony that we will be building teams over the next two seasons that will compete on all fronts.
“I’m delighted to have extended for another two years, Sheffield is home and I don’t want to be anywhere else. I’m proud to play in front of the amazing fans and privileged to captain this great club, it’s something I take very seriously.
Head Coach Aaron Fox said “Getting Dowdy done on another two year deal was a huge priority.
“He’s a guy that drives the compete in our group and his production hasn’t slipped at all. Age really isn’t a factor with him on how he takes care of himself. We can pencil him anywhere in our top 9 and know what we are getting.
“Since the day I arrived he has been a major cog in this organisations wheel, a huge asset and a great captain, he seems to set club and league records on such a regular basis, he is a one off and we are delighted he is a Steeler”
