“Fans will see Steelers of the future”
Steelers legend Jonathan Phillips will once again strap the skates on for another season of hockey in Sheffield this season, his second year as a Steeldog following his illustrious career with the Steelers.
Phillips says he is enthused about the year ahead after a summer of change at the Steeldogs “I’m excited, I always am at this time of the year but there is something being here at the Steeldogs that is good to be a part of”
Phillips is presently away with the Great Britain National side in Denmark where the team are preparing for the Olympic Pre-Qualification Tournament – his Steeldog team mates however are excited about their opening game this Friday.
The Steeldogs open their season with an exhibition game against Leeds Knights this Friday at ICE Sheffield with a face off time at 7.30pm Ticket details below.
“I wish I was with the Steeldogs to open the season but I know that Ben Morgan and team will be well prepared and ready for when Leeds arrive
“You can’t fail but to be impressed with the signings over the summer” continued Phillips “a great core of returnees, a new crop of exciting youngsters and of course three excellent imports, something the Steeldogs didn’t have last year
“We have been on the ice together now and you can the chemistry starting to come, I think the whole group is excited and motivated to make a challenge this season”
Phillips believes that Steelers fans will be impressed with the Steeldogs and urged fans to turn out on Friday “Firstly, I think they will be surprised with the standard, many of these younger players are playing for a shot with the Steelers
“Fans will come and see these guys develop and then feel a bond with them when they play over the road at the arena. There has to be the connection between both clubs, Steelers fans, Steeldogs fans, we are all Sheffield hockey fans and in this together”
