What looked like a comfortable night after 20 minutes, the Steelers had to dig deep until the very end to beat the Guilford Flames 4-3 on Saturday night.

The Story of Saturday Night Against the Flames.
Matt Greenfield started between the pipes as Steelers went looking for their third victory of the season against the Flames, after winning two close encounters against Paul Dixon’s side in the cup.
First Period.
Steelers off to the best possible start as they dominated the opening period
Diffley found Pu close in and his quick hands pulled a few outstanding moves as he beat Justin Fazio for a 1-0 scoreline at 12.09

It was 2-0 in the blink of an eye as Mitchell Heard scored for the second home game running when he double our advantage at 13.26

Steelers control at this early stage was only haunted by a late penalty against Cliff Pu for hooking, this giving the Flames some power-play time before the break
Second Period.
Steelers killed the remainder of the Pu penalty and at that time there was no sign of what was to follow.
The Flames took control in the middle session scoring 2 goals in 40 seconds to tie the game.
First Josh Nixon sniped one over Matt Greenfield’s shoulder at 27.46
At 28.26 the Flames were level when Gosselin tied game after the Steelers failed to clear their zone.
The teams exchanged minor penalties when Steelers were called for too many men on the ice at 30.48 and then Tesink of the Flames took a delay of game minor at 34.11
An inch perfect pass from Ryan Tait at 37.06 found Cole Shudra’s tape and he finished from close range to put the Steelers back ahead (3-2) heading into the second break.

Third Period.
Harper for hooking at 44.06 gave the Flames an early power-play but the Steelers killed well.
Steelers had their own power-play at 49.50 when Nixon was called for tripping but they couldn’t extend their lead and it was to come back to haunt them.
With 3.39 remaining the Flames levelled, Guildford’s man of the match Ethan Strang tied the game with Busch and Ully assisting.
Overtime looked likely but the Steelers dug in and into the final minute the game went, Harper and Tremblay combined to feed Cormier who fired through traffic, the red light went on and the 7,000 plus crowd went crazy as the celebrations began.
