8,000 Expected at the Arena on Sunday

The Sheffield Steelers face two crucial Challenge Cup games this weekend with a place in the semi-finals very much in their sights.
Aaron Fox’s side head to a sold-out Nottingham Panthers on Saturday night, before returning to the Utilita Arena on Sunday afternoon to face the Guildford Flames, when around 8,000 supporters are expected inside the House of Steel.
With the Challenge Cup group stage entering its decisive period, every point is becoming increasingly important.
The Steelers currently sit top of Group A with 10 points from six games, one point ahead of Nottingham, who have played a game more. Cardiff and Manchester both have six points, while Guildford sit on five.
Under this season’s format, the top two teams in Group A qualify directly for the Challenge Cup semi-finals, while the third-placed side must go through an additional elimination game against the runner-up from Group B.
That makes this weekend one of the most significant of the season so far.
Saturday – Panthers vs Steelers

First comes another instalment of one of British ice hockey’s biggest rivalries.
The Steelers travel down the M1 to face Nottingham Panthers on Saturday evening with all 6,500 tickets already sold for the game.
Face-off at the Motorpoint Arena is 7.00pm.
The Panthers are currently Sheffield’s closest challengers in Group A, making Saturday’s encounter particularly important in the battle for those automatic semi-final places.
Sheffield go into the weekend with confidence after completing a four-point weekend last time out, beating Glasgow Clan 5-0 at home before Ryan Tait’s late winner secured a 4-3 victory in Manchester.
Saturday offers an opportunity to build on that momentum against a Nottingham side with plenty at stake themselves.
Sunday – Flames Come to Sheffield

There will be little time to recover, with the Steelers back on home ice less than 24 hours later.
Guildford Flames visit the Utilita Arena on Sunday for a 4.00pm face-off, with another huge crowd expected.
Around 8,000 fans are already anticipated for what promises to be another big afternoon at the Arena.
Guildford remain very much alive in the Cup race themselves and arrive in Sheffield knowing that points are becoming increasingly valuable as the group stage moves towards its conclusion.
The Flames have already shown this season how dangerous they can be offensively, so the Steelers will know another big performance will be required.
Collins Hoping to Return

There could also be a welcome boost for the Steelers, with experienced forward Sean Collins hoping to return to the line-up this weekend.
His possible return would give Fox another important option at a time when the schedule and the importance of the games are increasing.
Brandon Whistle returned to action last weekend and made an immediate impact, while Tim Gettinger and Ryan Tait combined for seven goals across the victories over Glasgow and Manchester.
Now attention turns completely towards the Challenge Cup.
