Steelers Captain Robert Dowd has been named the new GB skipper by head coach Peter Russell.

Dowd takes over the role from previous Steelers and GB Captain Jonathan Phillips

Robert Dowd has been appointed as the new Captain of Great Britain, while Liam Kirk and Mark Richardson have been named Alternate Captains.

The 35-year-old made his GB debut in 2008-09 takes over from Jonathan Phillips who retired at the end of last season.

Dowd will captain GB for the first time in tomorrow’s opening game of the Olympic Qualifiers in Cardiff against China.

“It’s a very proud moment for me in my career and I know I have some big boots to fill,” said Dowd.

“It was a special moment when Pete (Russell) told me.

“There’s a little bit of pressure taking the job on from Jonathan (Phillips). We made some special memories under him.

“I hope I can do him proud and help GB to lift more trophies.”
