Flyers End Steelers Winning Road Record

Fife Flyers 2-1 Steelers

A frustrating night for the Steelers in Fife

Their incredible 14 (league games on the road) winning records ends as the Flyers take this game 2-1

Steelers had the majority of the play against an understrength Flyers side but couldn’t find a way past Kevin Lindskoug in Fife’s goal.

Flyers led by 1 after 8 minutes and didn’t double their advantage until the 52nd minute

A late Kevin Tansey goal gave hope but time ran out for the Steelers who return home tomorrow to take on the Flyers once more at the Arena (4pm face off)

First Period.

A couple of early chances for the Steeler with Mitchell Balmas and Mark Simpson going close.

Steelers power-play when Drake Pilon took a 2 minute penalty for slashing

Steelers had their chances with Allen and Watling close but the Flyers killed and were soon back 5 on 5

Early in the period it was all Steelers with the Flyers counter attacking on the break

08.26 and against the run of play the Flyers took the lead when Casey Gilling scored with a nice back hand finish after Greenfield had saved the earlier shot.

On his return Brett Neumann went close at the back door with Lindskoug getting across his crease quickly to make the save

16.05 and Flyers turn to go on the power-play when Cole Shudra was called for slashing

Steelers kept the Flyers to the outside and killed off Fife’s one man advantage.

Just before the hooter Dominic Cormier fired through traffic but again Lindskoug covered up

Second Period

The ice has been tilted in the Steelers favour for the majority of the second period but as much possession and chances as they have created we still can’t find a way past Kevin Lindskoug in the Flyers goal

Messrs: Balmas, Saucerman and Juusola went close in the first couple of minutes of the period.

Fife did have their chances and when Matt Greenfield couldn’t hold a shot and the follow up shot just went wide.

Lindskoug made the save of the night when Mitchel Balmas shot looking for the top shelf

Robert Dowd headed to the box for interference at 31.58 but the Steelers killed comfortably.

Juusola just wide from the left wing, Cormier over the cross bar in the last minute of the period.

End of the second period … Fife Flyers 1-0 Steelers

Third Period

A scrappy start to the third period with no clear cut chances to either side

Matt Greenfield then made an incredible save off Eriksson as he went post to post

Simpson over the cross bar as the Steelers once again took control.

Dowdy and Vallerand caused a double save from Lindskoug as the timing goal looked like coming our way

Then against the run of play Fife broke and created a two on one with Drake Pilon scoring past Greenfield with just 8.56 left in the game

Dowd denied with a pad save and then Tansey’s blast was also kicked away

55.38 and Steelers gave us hope with Kevin Tansey scored with a shot through traffic – the Flyers argued their goalies mask was off but the officials ruled it was a goal.

Juusola the next to go close for the Steelers

Matt Greenfield was pulled and Steelers and Flyers both called time outs in the next minute.

There was to be no last second goal and the Steelers return home without the points for the first time this season

Final score: Fife Flyers 2-1 Steelers
