Promotion for Steele as he steps up to the Steelers from the Steeldogs.
Head coach Aaron Fox has confirmed the promotion of Liam Steele from the Steeldogs to the Steelers for the 2026-27 season.
Steele joined the Steeldogs for the 25-26 season and had a standout year scoring 19 league and play off goals with 47 points in just 57 games. Liam was also a member of the Steeldogs 2026 Cup winning side.
Liam’s form earned him a place on the Steelers roster at the end of the year and at the play off final weekend.
It isn’t just the Steelers that have been pleased with Liam’s progress, only this week he was called into the Great Britain National side ahead of the World Championships.
Confirming the move Fox said “Liam came in and really impressed me with how hard he works and how quickly he adjusted his game after a couple years without playing any games.
“It was a great development year for him to play big minutes with the dogs and practice with us full time.
“He’s a big kid who skates really well and can play a heavy game. Liam will fit the mould in how we want to play and expect him to be a guy we can rely on next year”.
For his part Liam said “this is why I came to Sheffield last year, to earn a place on the Steelers team and I’m delighted to get this opportunity.
“I felt I had a good year with the Steeldogs and the ability to play a lot with them whilst also training every day with the Steelers certainly helped me.
“I’m looking forward to a hard summer of training and then getting back into the Steelers locker room for what we all hope will be a great season, I’m excited and can’t wait to get going again”.
