Greenfield and Marco De-Filippo to Backstop the Steelers
Best Team, Best Fans, Right Decision says De-Filippo
The Steelers import net minder duo was completed today with the confirmation that Italian International Marco De-Filippo would be joining Matt Greenfield between the pipes this season.
De-Filippo has 24 Italian caps to date and has spent seven of the last eight seasons in Cortina and the past year with the impressive Asiago side in the ICEHL
“I like our goalie situation” said Aaron Fox “It’s an impressive group of imports and young two-way Brits playing for their positions
“Marco is a goalie who has played extremely well in the Alps league and got the majority of starts in IceHL last year.
“His numbers in Alps are elite and extremely consistent year by year. I feel he will come in ready to compete for starts and prove to be an important piece.
“I have heard nothing but outstanding things about his character and really look forward to working with him”.
Marco will arrive in Sheffield on the 17th August and he can’t wait “I’ve been trying to get into the UK for two years now and I’m excited. I was delighted Sheffield came in for me, to play for the best team in front of the best fans is what all hockey players want. I have watched the league from afar, it gets better every season with lots of great players but also so many fans watching”
De-Filippo confirmed he didn’t know Matt Greenfield but had heard many good things “I’ve been told by many that he is a great guy and the best goalie in the Elite League” he said “I have played in a tandom before and split games, I will be ready when called upon to play my part” he said.
Asked about his goaltending style Marco replied “I’m a hybrid goalie, I’m not an acrobat, I stay square, I have straight positioning”
De-Filippo is a team mate of Angelo Miceli “We played together for the national team and of course I have played against him over here in Italy, he is a great player and team mate and the fans will enjoy his style”
