The Sheffield Steelers added creativity, experience and proven European pedigree to their forward group with the signing of Canadian centre Adam Rockwood ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The 30-year-old arrives in Sheffield after six successful seasons playing across some of Europe’s leading leagues, following the start of his professional career in North America.

After graduating from Northern Michigan University, Rockwood turned professional with the Springfield Thunderbirds in the American Hockey League, whilst also gaining valuable experience with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in the ECHL. Since making the move overseas, he has established himself as an intelligent and consistent offensive player with spells in Sweden, Finland, Austria and Slovakia, producing impressive numbers wherever he has played.

Rockwood’s move to Sheffield has been a long time in the making, having previously held discussions with Head Coach Aaron Fox before finally agreeing to join the Steelers ahead of the new campaign.

A former teammate and close friend of Steelers defenceman Brien Diffley, Rockwood already knew plenty about life in Sheffield before putting pen to paper.

“Everything I’ve seen and everything I’ve been told points to Sheffield being an amazing place to play. The facilities are first class, the fans are incredible and, most importantly, I’m joining a team that has the quality to win hockey games.

“Whenever I’m looking at joining a team, one of the first things I look at is how many players want to come back year after year. Seeing so many familiar faces returning tells you everything you need to know about the organisation and the environment they’ve built here.”

An intelligent, pass-first centreman, Rockwood prides himself on creating scoring opportunities for those around him. Blessed with excellent vision and composure on the puck, he combines creativity with strong skating ability and a commitment to playing responsibly at both ends of the ice.

Steelers supporters can expect a player who is equally comfortable controlling the pace of a game, creating space for his linemates and contributing in all situations.

Aaron Fox believes Rockwood possesses all the qualities required to make an immediate impact in the Elite League.

“Adam is a high-end playmaking centre who plays with an edge and executes at a really high level, whether that’s in open ice or in tight traffic areas.

“He’s produced strong numbers everywhere he’s played in Europe and he’s a highly competitive player who wants to win. We think he’s is going to fit into our group really well.”

With his European experience, hockey intelligence and desire to compete, Adam Rockwood arrives in Sheffield as another important piece of the Steelers’ 2026-27 roster, adding further quality and depth to a squad built to challenge for honours throughout the season.
