It’s a welcome return to Sheffield for Brandon Whistle, who re-joins the Steelers after signing a new two-year contract with the club.

Whistle departed at the end of the 2025/26 season to join the Belfast Giants, taking the opportunity to play alongside his brother, Jackson. The move proved a successful one, as the pair helped secure the Elite League Championship before Brandon made the decision to return to Sheffield.

Since first arriving in 2018, Whistle’s rise through the Steelers organisation has been impressive. After his debut season, he continued his development with spells in Telford and Leeds, before earning his return to the Steelers line-up in 2021.

He went on to become an integral part of the team, playing a key role in the club’s historic 2024 Grand Slam, helping secure the league title, Challenge Cup and play-off championship.

Head Coach Aaron Fox said: “We missed Brandon and are delighted to have him back. He’s a versatile player who can slot into any role across the top nine and contributes on both the power play and penalty kill. Having him return definitely makes us a stronger team.”

Whistle added: “I’m delighted to be back. People know I didn’t leave Sheffield for hockey reasons—I wanted the chance to play a season with my brother, and I’m really glad I did that.

“Now I’m back to help the Steelers win. I’ve signed for two seasons and can’t wait to get started.”

The son of former Steelers coach Dave Whistle, Brandon was born in Kelowna, British Columbia, but raised in the UK during his father’s time playing and coaching in the country—making his return to Sheffield all the more fitting.
