Biography

Ivan Björkly-Nordström has put pen to paper on a two-year professional deal with the Sheffield Steelers, earning a full-time step up to the Elite League following an impressive spell with the Sheffield Steeldogs under head coach Slava Koulikov.

The talented forward arrived in Sheffield from Peterborough, where he made his mark in the NIHL, and quickly established himself as a fan favourite during his first season with the Steeldogs.

Born in Edinburgh and developed through the Swedish system, Ivan combines European skill with a strong physical presence. His junior career included time with respected programmes at Linköping, Malmö and AIK before making the move to UK hockey with the Peterborough Phantoms, where he continued to progress before excelling in Sheffield.

A standout product of the Steeldogs’ two-way programme, Ivan earned his opportunity with the Steelers through consistent, high-level performances. After gaining valuable Elite League experience through call-ups last season, he now makes the transition to the professional ranks on a full-time basis.

Steelers head coach Aaron Fox said: “Ivan worked incredibly hard over the last two seasons and deserved his spot on the Steelers roster. There is no end to his talents and where this can take him in the game.

“I’m looking forward to working with him again over the next two seasons.”

Ivan added: “I’m excited by the challenge ahead and believe I am more than ready to step up. I enjoyed my games and time with the Steelers throughout this year and look forward to contributing more over the next two seasons.”

Ivan will now be aiming to cement his place at the top level as he continues his development within the Steelers organisation.
