The Sheffield Steelers strengthened their goaltending department ahead of the 2026–27 Elite League season with the signing of talented British netminder Lucas Brine from the Glasgow Clan.
Brine arrives in Sheffield after establishing himself as one of the most promising young British goalies in the Elite League during spells with both Dundee Stars and Glasgow Clan. Over the past three seasons, he has made 47 Elite League starts, earning a reputation for his athleticism, composure, and ability to produce big performances against some of the league’s top sides.
An international goaltender with Great Britain, Brine joined the Steelers whilst away with Team GB at the World Championships in Switzerland, further highlighting his growing reputation within British hockey.
Head Coach Aaron Fox believes Brine will be an ideal addition to the Steelers roster and an excellent partner alongside Matt Greenfield.
“Lucas is a young, talented British goalie who has already shown he can win games at this level,” said Fox.
“He’s someone we think will work really well alongside Greener. On nights we decide to rest Matt, we know we have a solid and reliable goalie capable of delivering results.
“It also gives us flexibility with our roster and we’ve seen Lucas first-hand over the last couple of years, including games where he’s beaten us, so we know the quality he has.
“I’m looking forward to getting him into Sheffield and getting to work.”
Speaking after agreeing his move to Sheffield, Brine admitted he was excited by the challenge of joining one of the Elite League’s biggest clubs.
“Playing against Sheffield over the last few years, you quickly realise what a first-class organisation they are,” said Brine.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the club and really looking forward to what’s ahead.
“One of the biggest reasons for making the move was that I instantly felt wanted and part of the plans moving forward. I had really positive conversations with Aaron Fox and Tony Smith and everything just felt right for me.
“Everyone knows the expectations that come with playing in Sheffield and I want to challenge myself and be part of a team competing to win trophies.
“In Matt Greenfield, the Steelers have one of the best goalies in the league. I’m looking forward to working with him, learning from him and pushing each other to be the best we can be.”
Brine now joins the Steelers roster for the 2026–27 season as the club continues preparations for another exciting campaign in orange.
