It will be a second year with the Steelers for the impressive Matt Petgrave, the defenseman who jointly led team scoring in his first season with the club after notching 9 goals, 48 points and an impressive +/- of 41

The experienced 6’1 blueliner joined the Steelers in the summer of 2022 from Czechia side HC Dunamo Pardubice where he split the previous season with Slovakian side HIK Spisska Nova Ves

After four years playing his junior hockey in Owen Sound (OHL) Petgrave studied at University of New Brunswick where he spent a further four seasons.

Turning professional in 2017 he joined East Coast League side Brampton Beast where he played until 2020 (with spells in the AHL with Laval, Belleville, Syracuse and Utica

Head coach Aaron Fox is a great fan of Petgrave saying “His return is important to us as we make a play for silverware, the partnership he and Niklas Nevalainen had last year was impressive with both +- of over 40

“I can play Matt in all positions, he is an impact player and can be a game changer.

“Last year he was voted onto the leagues all star team showing that the other clubs saw is importance to our club and his extreme talents”
