Announced as completing the Steelers blue line after Coach Fox was required to replace Niklas Nevalainen and Sam Jones during the Summer months, Sacha Guimond joins the Steelers from Ville-Marie, Montreal in Canada.

Guimond will add further size to the Steelers defensive pack coming in at height of 6 foot 3 inches and adds further valuable experience to the squad at the age of 33.

The Canadian defencemen decided to take a hop over the English Channel after spending the last three seasons playing for Rouen in the French Ligue Magnus. In total, Guimond played 166 for the French outfit, racking up an impressive 132 points including 30 goals from the blue line.

Guimond is no stranger to silverware having won back-to-back Championships in France and will be hoping to bring further success to his new club. Prior to that, Sacha had spells around Europe playing for Bratislava (ICEHL), Innsbruck (EBEL) Olimpija Ljubljana (EBEL) and Banska Bystrica (Slovakia). Sacha has also had success in North America before he headed to Europe being named in the 1^st All-Star Team in the ECHL during the 12/13 season.

The Steelers new defenceman commented, “I’ve been in Europe for seven or eight years now so this will be a new experience and a new challenge, we all need those in life! I am excited to come over to the UK and get started. The league is getting better every year and when I look at the standard of players in the league and especially our team you just want to put the skates on and start.”

Finally, Coach Fox had this to say about his latest blue-liner, “he skates well, especially for his size and has a very good shot.  Sacha put up close to a point per game pace while in France on an outstanding team in Rouen the last 3 years. I think he gives us another Powerplay option as well and it gives us an opportunity to use six high end defencemen that should give us a real advantage night in and night out”.
