Former NHL forward Tim Gettinger arrives in Sheffield after an impressive professional career spanning the NHL, American Hockey League and Germany’s DEL.

The 6’6″ American spent the majority of his North American career within the New York Rangers organisation, making 16 NHL appearances across four separate call-ups while also establishing himself as a consistent performer in the AHL. In 346 American Hockey League games, Gettinger recorded (insert goals), (insert assists) and (insert points), proving himself to be a dependable two-way forward with the ability to contribute at both ends of the ice.

Last season saw Tim make the move overseas for the first time, joining Schwenninger Wild Wings in Germany’s DEL, where he continued to develop his all-round game before agreeing to join Aaron Fox’s Steelers ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

A player capable of playing both centre and wing, Gettinger combines his size, skating ability and hockey intelligence to become an effective 200-foot player. Comfortable in all situations, he has earned a reputation for being a reliable defensive forward, an important penalty killer and a physical presence around the opposition net on the power play.

Speaking after signing with the Steelers, Tim admitted it was the club’s reputation and family environment that made Sheffield an easy decision.

“Aaron spoke to me about the club, the city and the culture around the Steelers. After talking everything through with my wife, we both felt it was a great opportunity. With a newborn baby, finding somewhere that felt like home was really important to us, and Sheffield stood out straight away. I can’t wait to get over there and get started.”

Head Coach Aaron Fox believes Gettinger will bring an important balance to the Steelers’ forward unit.

“Tim brings an elite two-way game to our group. At 6’6″, he skates exceptionally well and has a really unique skill set. He’s played more than 300 games in the American League, has NHL experience, can play both centre and wing and contributes in every situation. He’s a high-compete player and another really important piece of our roster.”

Gettinger’s arrival completes the Steelers’ forward group for the 2026-27 season, adding another experienced professional with NHL pedigree to an already exciting roster.
