Messrs: Dowd, Tansey and Kelly all contracted for next season.
The Steelers have confirmed that Captain Robert Dowd, Kevin Tansey and Reece Kelly are all contracted to the team for the 2025-26 EIHL season
Next season will be Robert Dowd’s 18th season with the club after playing his first game back in the 06-7 campaign. Dowdy remained in Sheffield before leaving for a year in Belfast (2011-12) and another one in Sweden with Troja-Ljunby (2012-13) before returning to the Steelers for the 13-14 season
Earlier this season Dowdy took over as the Steelers all time record goal scorer, beating Steve Nemeth’s tally of 356 goals. Our captain presently stands at 374. Dowd presently stands 2nd in all time appearances for the club on 870 (only Jonathan Phillips has played more games, 1,042)
Last summer Kevin Tansey inked a two year deal with the Steelers, returning in 2025-26 for what will be his third season in Orange.
The 6’4 defenceman joined the Steelers from the Herning Blue Fox’s ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Prior to that Kevin played single seasons in Brno (Czechia), Innsbruck (Austria) and Znojmo (Czechia – IceLeague).
Back home, Kevin started his career with Clarkson University before turning proffesional in 2016 with Binghampton in the AHL, he would go on to have spells with Chicago, Stockton and Grand Rapids in the American League whilst also playing for Missouri and Toledo in the ECHL
In 2025-26 Kevin will also complete his studies at Sheffield Hall University.
Reece Kelly joined the Steelers just prior to transfer deadline day from the Glasgow Clan
Between 2016 and 2020 Reece played his junior years in the Ontario Hockey Academy before heading to Europe, first with Stavanger Oilers (U21) in Norway and then IPK U20 (Finland)
Returning to home shores in 2022-23 on a two-way contract with Bristol and Cardiff, the following season Reece moved back to his homeland in Scotland signing for the Glasgow Clan where he played the entirety of the 2023-24 season and the majority of last season before his move to Sheffield.
