Greenfield Shut Out in Belfast
Another brilliant result for the Steelers as Matt Greenfield shuts out the Belfast Giants with a 4-0 victory
Two goals from Mikko Juusola and single strikes from Cole Shudra and Mark Simpson were enough to secures the points.
First Period
It couldn’t have come much better for the Steelers in the opening period
Mark Simpson picked the puck up in his own end of the ice and went down the left wing, wrapped around Tyler Beskorowany for an opening goal at 07.06
Cormier fed Cole Shudra who also chose the left wing to shoot from, and from a tight angle his shot found a way past Beskorowany at 10.07 for 0-2
Diffley and Neumann were involved in the play that set up Mikko Juusola at 13.13 and he burst through and shot past Beskorowany for a 3-0 lead
Both teams have had one power-play each with Cooper (Giants) and Shudra (Steelers) sitting 2 minute minors that were both killed.
Second Period
Steelers had a great opportunity at the start of the period to extend their lead when first Charlie Curtis and then a bench minor for too many men on the ice gave Sheffield a 5 on 3 power-play
Giants had a great chance shorthanded but Nicholls did an incredible job on the back-check.
Mitchell Balmass had a one timer well saved by Beskorowany before Giants returned to full strength.
Niklas Nevalainen sat 2 minutes for tripping but the best chance of the next 2 minutes came when Brett Neumann broke away and shot with Beskorowany making another save
Dowdy went close when Vallerand centred a pass on to the stick with the save made
Diffley for holding at 36.53 and the Giants power-play looked a lot better, credit Scott Allen for some great work on the kill
The period ended with Patrick Watling being taken down with a high stick to the face – a penalty is expected at the start of the third period.
Third Period.
There was no penalty against the Giants at the start of the final period with the two teams starting five on five
It was end to end stuff with the Giants playing hard as they tried to get back in the game
Matt Greenfield was making some great saves but he needed the help of Marco Vallerand at 46.24 in preventing Belfast from scoring, he did take 2 minutes in the penalty box for his troubles.
Greenfield made another incredible save as the Giants tried to press home on the power-play
At the other end both Ciampini and Simpson went close short-handed, Vallerand was soon back and another Steelers penalty kill complete
At 49.52 Steelers put the game to bed when Juusola scored his second of the night (Neumann and Watling)
Chances came at both ends including one in the final second of the game for Patrick Watling
Final Score: Belfast Giants 0-4 Steelers
