Tansey Brace Helps Steelers to Victory

Come from behind win in Coventry 6-3

Steelers in Coventry on Sunday evening after their 3-0 home victory against Manchester on Saturday

Jonathan Phillips continued his come back spell and was joined by Finlay Ulrick and the returning Angus Laing with Sam Cooper and Daniel Crowe returning to the Steeldogs.

Steelers victorious 6-3 with a brace from Kevin Tansey and single strikes from Mitchell Balmas, Marco Vallerand, Colton Saucerman and Patrick Watling.

First Period.

01.23 and the Blaze off to a quick start with former Steeler Danny Kristo tipping a shot from the point past Matt Greenfield for the opening goal of the night.

Jonathan Phillips had the best of the early scoring chance as he fired into the body of Blaze goalie Nolan Kent

Colton Saucerman fed Marco Vallerand who burst through the neutral zone and fed Mitchell Balmas to equalise (1-1) at 06.17

Balmas almost had a second in the next shift as the Steelers went through the gears

08.33 and it was Balmas who went from scorer to provider as he assisted on Marco Vallerand’s go-ahead-goal

10.01 and the Blaze on the power-play with Josh Nicholls off for boarding

Steelers saw off the penalty and returned to full strength

18.17 and a a rocket from Kevin Tansey (assisted Daniel Ciampini) put the Steelers 3-1 ahead

Second Period

Blaze on the front foot at the start of the middle period creating chances from the first shift

21.39 and a scramble in front of Matt Greenfield’s goal with Ian McNulty getting the final touch to bring the score back to 2-3


The Watling, Nicholls and Harper line were creating chance after chance and had the Blaze camped in their own zone. Steelers had upped the gears.

Vallerand close to extending the lead with Kozen making a huge pad save

36.52 and Colton Saucerman made the breakthrough firing through traffic and beating Kozum for the 4-2 advantage. Mitchell Balmas added an assist to his ever growing tally.

Steelers will start the third period on the power-play after the Blaze were called at the final hooter

Third Period

Steelers started the final period on the Powerplay but failed to extend their lead

Quickly afterwards the Blaze turned up the heat with Matt Greenfield called on, including one incredible triple save.

Marco Vallerand and Patrick Watling set up Mikko Juusola but Kozun made the save.

49.01 and the Blaze were back in it when Ian McNulty scored his second of the game to make it 4-5

Like his first, from close range after a scramble

49.29 and Vallerand and Norrish clashed, both took 2 minute roughing minors.

54.45 with the seconds counting down on the penalty Kevin Tansey stepped up and fired a rocket past Kozun to double the lead once again (3-5)

56.24 Blaze time out and Kozun pulled for the extra skater.

57.37 Marco Vallerand called for holding – Blaze now on a 6 on 4 PP

Steelers killed the Blaze advantage and with just over 5 seconds remaining Patrick Watling found the empty net
