We welcomed back our memories on Saturday

Kenny headlines an incredible cast of returnees for Retro Weekend.

For so many, it back memories of a different time as the Steelers welcomed back seven former superstars of the club for the start of Retro Weekend against the Belfast Giants.

The Messiah Ken Priestlay made his first return to the Arena in over 20 years and was joined by Ron Shudra, David Longstaff, Nicky Chinn, Andre Malo, Scott Neil and Mike O’Connor.

Their presentation pre-game had fans on their feet cheering and for those old enough to remember, bowing to the Messiah.

Kenny’s Day Back Home

For Ken Priestlay it was a day to bring back the memories as he and Scott Neil were the first to arrive at the Arena and take a walk around the building, seeing the changes that have taken place.

Kenny walked around an empty arena and visited his retired shirt banner on concourse level.

“It’s a huge honour to have your shirt retired, I’m very proud to see this again” he said

With the “Meet and Greet” ahead we took Kenny to the Steelers Store so he could sign the shirts that were part of the package that night.

Back downstairs to meet the other returnees including David Longstaff, Nicky Chinn and Andre Malo

David Longstaff bought two of his sons to the game, it was the first time Freddie had seen his Dad in a Steelers shirt, his older lad Sean of course remembers the Grand Slams – Sean did get his own Steelers shirt (such a waste he didn’t become a hockey player ….)

Time for a Team Photo before being introduced onto the ice.
