“A Good Start Vital” says Dowdy

“It’s a new challenge but we are all up for it” says the Captain

It’s another year for the Steelers captain Robert Dowd as the clubs all time leading goal scorer sets about his 18th season in Orange

“I still get excited, I still look forward to that first day with old friends and new team mates” said Dowdy just 4 days before the clubs induction day at the arena this Friday.

“I think Foxy has done a fantastic job this summer, we have had quiet the turnover of players and looking at the guys we have coming in and speaking with Aaron I am confident that there are good days ahead

“I think us returning players are a little like the fans when we sign a new player, we head to Elite Prospects, see if the new guys have played with anyone we know. This week we will all meet for the first time and it is important us veteran guys make the new players feel at home right away”

One player who won’t be sat alongside Dowdy this year is Marco Vallerand “It will be weird not having him next to me and in my ear all the time” continued Rob “I will miss him for sure, we go back a long way and have shared some great times together

“My kids are even more upset, they love Valley and they have made me promise to take them on a trip to visit him, we all wish him the best and I know he feels the same about all of us here at the Steelers. I might have to call him during the season for some advice on the Eddy though”

Dowdy is also excited by the improvements all the teams in the league have made “I think every club looks like they have improved, I don’t think there is any night you will be able to predict results.

“It will be hugely important to get off to a good start and gain some momentum, especially with so many new players. I think for them to get a feel for what is expected here, the fans reaction and what they expect as well is important

“We are lucky that the core guys coming back are true leaders and more importantly really good people, so we are in good hands”

On the clubs training camp “part of me likes the fact that we aren’t playing lots of games over three weeks, I think the three games we have will be intense and competitive, also when you don’t have ice, you can’t play games so we deal with what we have.

“I’m looking forward to the Cardiff games, they have improved and I’m sure it will be the best test we could have had and the right preperation for the new signing”
