Rob is just one goal away from being our all time leading goal scorer
At 56.19 on Sunday 16th February, Robert Dowd scored his second goal of the night against Belfast Giants, it was no oridinary goal, firstly it was the game winner in a must win fixture with the table topping Giants.

That goal also equalled the clubs all time scoring record held by Storming Steve Nemeth on 356.
The one Steelers record we thought would never be broken, was about to be.

Dowdy of course had earlier tied the game, Steelers had trailed 2-0 but his mate Marco Vallerand, as on all the big occasions had come to the party to score our first goal, Dowdy for 2-2 (355) and we were on our way

“I didn’t know the record was that close” said Dowdy post game “I’m glad no one told me to be honest”
One of the reasons was that head coach Aaron Fox wanted it that way “We didn’t need him to have the pressure on his shoulders, we shut down the noise over the last couple of weeks but now we can shake his hand and congratulate him on an outstanding achievement”
Dowdy continued “The important thing for me was the 2 points, thats the only thing that mattered tonight, the game was a must win.
“It’s nice that the goal that levelled the record was an important one, a game winner on such a big night, that is nice
“I think for years we all looked at that record and thought that this was the one that was maybe out of reach, but I guess year on year it was chipped away and tonight was the night we levelled”
Dowdy has a chance to break that record on Wednesday night when the Steelers take on Fife Flyers at the Arena (7.30pm) Tickets “HERE”
