Flames come from behind and score 5 without reply

Sunday night hockey action in Guildford against the Flames
Steelers had just the one roster change from Saturday night with Sasha Guimiond coming back into the line up in place of Veeti Vainio.
After leading through Maxim Golod in the first period, the Flames hit back scoring four times and leading 4-2 after 40 Minutes
Things got worse for Aaron Fox’s side with another 2 goals going inside the Steelers net for a final score of Guildford Flames 6-2 Steelers.
First Period …
Even opening period with the Steelers converting on their one power-play opportunity.
Brandon Whistle had an early chance as Mikko Juusola found him on a nice 2 on 1
Talbot went close for the Flames and then got tangled with Brien Diffley, Diff looked in a lot of pain and headed to the dressing room.

Cormier with the first clear scoring chance after a nice zone entry and set up by his team mates.

Second unit’s turn to have a go and it was sucessful, Saucerman and Vallerand setting up Golod for a one time strike that beat Kupsky for the opening goal of the night at 11.42
Dodero had a couple of late chances with Greenfield called upon to make the save.
The line of Dowd, Whistle and Juusola had a dominant shift that created scoring chances, but no conversions.

Mark Simpson and Maxim Golod ran into one another with Golod losing his helmet and heading to the dressing room in some pain.

Second Period …
It was a scrappy start to the middle period with both sides struggling to keep possession.
23.57 and a penalty against Cole Shudra for roughing
The Flames took advantage with Dodero firing through a crowd and giving Matt Greenfield no chance.
Great chance at the other end for Mitchell Balmas and in doing so he drew a minor penalty against Alvaro for slashing
Steelers converted for the 2nd time of the night on the power-play when Mikko Juusola got the final touch on a loose puck to squeeze it under Kupsky and give us the lead back (1-2) at 26.20

The period then changed and the ice slanted …
There were warning signs as Greenfield made two big saves before Alvaro tipped the puck in front of Greenfield to tie the game 202 at 31.22

Flames led for the first time at 31.56 Tedesco finishing nicely from a tight angle after the puck fell at his feet. Flames 3-2 Steelers

36.02 and it was three without reply to make it 4-2
Steelers called for a video review, claiming the net was off its moorings, the referee’s didn’t agree and Alvaro’s second of the night stood.
Marco Vallerand looked like he had taken a nasty one and made his way back to the locker room
Greenfield made another huge stop and the Steelers escaped back to the dressing room trailing 4-2 after two periods.
Third Period …
Steelers needed a strong start and Marco Vallerand had an early half chance at the back door in the first shift.
22.30 Penalty Flames with Crock off for high sticks (on Vallerand)
The power-play had already scored two but couldn’t add a third despite good chances for Balmas and Vallerand.
Kevin Tansey went close with his shot keeping past Kupsky and trickling over the crease.
49.03 and another power-play for the Steelers, this time the Flames with too many men on the ice.
Saucerman went closest, Kupsky with the save. Then Patrick Watling with a one timer, Kupsky again making the stop.

It was all Steelers and incredible defending from the Flames
52.09 Saucerman down after a high stick, Jacome this time heads to the box, more power-play time for the Steelers.
Kevin Tansey stood right in front of the goal had two chances, both inches wide.
It was a another great kill by Guildford and with the Steelers pressing Alvaro scored for the Flames to make it 5-2 with just 3.03 remaining

Greenfield pulled …
Then a long delay after a hit by Dowd on Crock, his stick smashed the plexiglass and a sheet of glass smashed.
The glass was replaced, game back on and more chances for the Steelers as we pressed with the extra skater.
The empty net goal did arrive with just 17 seconds remaining, Catenacci came out of the box for the simplest of goals.
