Greenfield Leads the Steelers to Victory in Glasgow

3-1 Road win as Greenfield shuts the door on the Clan

Steelers take the 2 points in game 1 of the weekend with a 3-1 Friday night victory against Glasgow Clan.

Matt Greenfield was the star of the show making several outstanding saves

Mark Simpson, Maxim Golod and Brandon Whistle scored the first period goals as the Steelers took their chances in the opening session.

Our Line Up

Captain Robert Dowd, Marco Vallerand and Brandon Whistle returned for the Steelers though we were without Veto Vainio and Daniel Leavens

Period 1.

Matt Greenfield made the first save of the night at 1.41, moments later Brandon Whistle broke up a Clan 2 on 1 as Glasgow came hard out of the blocks.

It was Whistle who forced the first save from Landon Bow in the next shift, Watling from the left wing went close.

04.19 and Steelers open the scoring, unassisted from Mark Simpson, his first shot was blocked and rebound fell nicely for him to have a second go which he despatched for the opening goal of the night (0-1)

Forbes should have levelled in the next shift, left all alone in front of goal it was left to Matt Greenfield to make a point blank save.

09.02 and that man Maxim Golod struck again, this time on the wrap around assisted Robert Dowd (0-2)

Clan immediately changed their goalie with Lucas Brine called upon to take over between the pipes.

Mitchell Balmas next to go close, he fired and Mikko Jussola couldn’t pick up the rebound

McClellan close for Glasgow, Greenfield again making the stop.

Ully was next for the Clan with Greener again in action

Dowd, Vallerand and Whistle have a dominant shift, we get a change in the offensive zone and Juusola an inch over the cross bar

Save of the period from Greenfield in this even (in chance opening period)

Final minute and excellent work from Vallerand sets up a one timer for Brandon Whistle who makes it 3-0

End of the first period: Glasgow Clan 0-3 Steelers

Period 2 …

Landon Bow was back in goal for the Clan and was quickly called upon as Dominic Cormier went close cutting in from the left wing. Second Period …

Clan came hard in the second session with the ice tilted and Steelers struggling to contain

Ully shot wide on a 2-1, he was then left alone but failed to convert as Greener denied.

Glasgow thought they had scored but the officials judged their was a hand pass in the play, a let off for the Steelers

Huttula with a giveaway and Clan push forward again, moments later Diffley gave the puck up behind Greenfield’s goal, Berry was wide open but Greener somehow got to the shot to keep it 3-0

Some breathing space as Ciampini did well and got a scoring chance away.

Seigo next to go close, this time desperate play from Cormier saved the moment

35.58 and the Clan scored the goal that had been coming for a while, Berry with the assist and a tap in for Schwartz after the puck had bounced off the boards onto Berry’s stick

That was 190.46 seconds since the last time we had conceeded.

Jameson so close as the Clan continued to push …

Steelers needed the hooter to re-group after 40 minutes, we still lead 3-1 and take the advantage into the final period.

Glasgow Clan 1-3 Steelers

Third Period …

A slight delay in the period starting with a lot of standing water on the ice.

Marco Vallerand with the first chance of the period, firing from a tight angle

Jameson with a blast down the right wing bought the first save of the period from the outstanding Greenfield

McLellan the next to go close for Glasgow but Greenfield holds on.

Rest bite for the Steelers as Messrs Dowd, Vallerand and Whistle dominate a shift and create chances.

Big hit on Mikko Juusola, he gets right up and at it, Balmas goes close as does Mikko moments later

With 1 minutes remaining it gets a little heated behind Greenfield’s goal

Vallerand finds Balmas with Bow making the stop

Bow then makes the save of the night as Blamas and Watling go in on a 2 on 1. The pass is perfect and somehow Bow gets across to deny Watling

Over 2 minutes remain and Bow heads to the bench, Tansey the first to try and find the empty net

Final score: Glasgow Clan 1-3 Steelers
