Roe Strengthens Steelers Blue Line

Blue Line Close to Completion.

The Sheffield Steelers have added further experience and offensive quality to their defence with the signing of American blueliner Logan Roe ahead of the 2026-27 Elite League season.

Roe arrives in Sheffield after spending the past four seasons with Black Wings Linz in the Austrian Ice Hockey League (IceHL), where he established himself as one of the league’s highest-scoring defencemen. Prior to his move to Austria, he enjoyed a season in Sweden with Västerås IK in the Allsvenskan following a successful collegiate career at Canisius College.

After graduating, Roe spent six seasons playing professionally in North America, icing in both the ECHL and the American Hockey League before beginning his European career.

Speaking about his move to Sheffield, Roe said he was excited to be joining one of British ice hockey’s biggest clubs.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Steelers. I spoke with Aaron many times throughout the process and I really appreciated how persistent he was in recruiting me.

“I played alongside Sean Collins in Austria, so it will be great to have a familiar face in the dressing room when I arrive.

“Everything I learned about the Steelers told me I was joining a first-class organisation with a real hunger for success and winning trophies, and that fits perfectly with what I want from this next stage of my career.”

Asked to describe his style of play, Roe added:

“I move the puck well, I can play in all situations and I compete hard every night. I love the game and I think that passion is an important part of who I am as a player.”

Steelers Head Coach Aaron Fox believes Roe will become a key figure on the club’s blue line.

“Logan is a big, experienced defenceman who has put up extremely productive numbers in the IceHL over the last four seasons, consistently finishing among the league’s top-scoring defencemen.

“At 6’4″, he skates exceptionally well and plays the game the right way defensively. We’ll rely on him in every situation and he will bring another offensive dimension to our defence.”

Roe has signed a two-year contract with the Steelers and, alongside his hockey commitments, will begin studying at the Sheffield Hallam University Business School during his first season in the city.

With size, experience and proven offensive production from one of Europe’s leading leagues, Logan Roe becomes another significant addition to Aaron Fox’s roster as the Steelers continue to build towards the 2026-27 campaign.
