Game Summary
The Steelers returned to the Utilita Arena with a performance of potential promise heading into the play-offs, sweeping aside the Glasgow Clan 8-1 in a commanding display that reignited momentum at a crucial stage of the season. Coming into the game off the back of consecutive defeats, the Steelers responded emphatically, combining relentless offensive pressure with clinical finishing and composed goaltending from Matthew Greenfield.
A goalless first period masked the growing dominance of the Steelers, who outshot and outworked their opponents without finding the breakthrough. However, the second period saw an explosive turnaround, with four unanswered goals, including three in under three minutes, blowing the game wide open and leaving the Clan struggling to recover.
The third period only reinforced the Steelers’ superiority, as they continued to press and punish a tiring Glasgow side. Kevin Tansey’s two-goal performance stood out on a night where contributions came from across the lineup.
With one final regular season game to come (away to the Clan in Glasgow) the Steelers will take some confidence from the performance.

First Period [0-0]
The opening period saw the Steelers set the tone early, applying pressure and generating chances, but ultimately being denied by Glasgow netminder Liam Souliere. Brien Diffley fired the first warning shot from the blue line, though it was comfortably handled, before Ryan Tait’s pace down the left created a prime opportunity for Kevin Tansey at the crease, only for the finish to elude him.
As the period progressed, the Steelers continued to probe. Mitchell Heard cut in from the right wing and tested Souliere with a strong effort that required a sharp shoulder save. At the other end, Hugo Roy forced Matthew Greenfield into his first meaningful action, but the Steelers’ netminder looked composed from the outset.
Special teams made an early appearance when Jack Dougherty was penalised for interference, but despite sustained zone pressure, the Clan struggled to penetrate the Steelers’ defensive structure, instead being forced to work the puck around the perimeter. The Steelers responded with further chances of their own, including a neat feed from Evan Jasper to Dominic Cormier, who was unable to convert from the slot.
There was a sense of frustration late in the period when Cole Shudra was tripped without a call, leading to a quick break for the Clan that saw Brady Risk fire high. The Steelers continued to push, with Brett Ritchie testing Souliere’s glove, but the deadlock remained intact. A late boarding penalty on Brett Neumann handed the Steelers a powerplay to start the second, and with a 13-7 shot advantage, the signs were already promising.

Second Period [4-0]
The second period began with the Steelers carrying over their powerplay, but it was at even strength where the game truly ignited. Early chances for Mitchell Balmas and Robert Dowd kept Souliere busy, while a missed connection on a 2-on-1 involving Dowd and Ritchie hinted that a breakthrough was imminent.
That breakthrough finally came at 28:58, as Brett Ritchie capitalised on a well-worked move, finishing from close range after a feed from Evan Jasper, with Dowd also picking up an assist. Just 17 seconds later, the Steelers struck again; Mitchell Balmas doubling the lead after quick puck movement involving Dominic Cormier and Brien Diffley.
The Clan barely had time to regroup before the Steelers struck a third. Relentless forechecking from Jasper forced a turnover, allowing Stephen Harper to fire home from one knee in the slot, capping a devastating three-goal burst in under three minutes. A Glasgow timeout did little to stem the tide.
Even when shorthanded following a Mikko Juusola penalty, the Steelers remained dangerous, with Juusola himself creating a chance immediately upon exiting the box. The period’s fourth goal came from a beautifully constructed passing play, as Juusola, Jordan Southorn, and Mitchell Heard combined to set up Ryan Tait, who finished low to make it 4-0.
By the end of the period, the Steelers had not only seized control of the scoreboard but also the rhythm of the game, extending their shot advantage to 24-14 and leaving the Clan chasing shadows.

Third Period [8-1]
Any hopes of a Glasgow comeback were quickly extinguished early in the third period. Kevin Tansey announced himself in style, skating into the high slot and unleashing a powerful top-shelf finish to make it 5-0, with assists from Juusola and Balmas.
The Steelers continued to press, and while a powerplay opportunity came and went, their dominance never wavered. As the game entered its final ten minutes, Greenfield remained sharp, denying a breakaway chance to preserve what looked to be a certain shutout at the time.
Further goals followed as the Steelers turned control into a rout. Mikko Juusola’s clever play in the corner set up Mitchell Heard for the sixth, before Glasgow grabbed a consolation through Hugo Roy, ending Greenfield’s shutout bid.
The response was immediate and emphatic. Robert Dowd added a seventh with a composed finish, assisted by Joona Huttula and, fittingly, Greenfield himself. Tansey then capped the scoring with his second of the night, finishing from the slot after good work from Southorn and Heard.

An 8-1 final scoreline reflected a dominant display in all areas. With contributions throughout the lineup and a standout night for Tansey, scoring twice in front of his visiting father, the Steelers head into the final game of the regular season with some confidence restored.
