Steelers Hit Back to Crush the Storm 6-1

Steelers came from behind to score six unanswered goals in a convincing victory over the Manchester Storm in Challenge Cup action at the Arena in front of 8843 fans.

Kameron Kielly came into the line up for his first competitive game of the season replacing Mark Simpson who was out with a knock.

Steelers dominated the first period and it was a shock to all that the scoreline remained 0-0 with Storm goalie Evan Weninger pulling off several incredible saves.

Storm had a 4 minute power-play early on when Mitchell Balmas took a 4 minute high sticks penalty at 2.43 though they couldn’t convert and created little from the one man advantage.

Steelers power-play came later in the period when Johnny Corneil sat 2 minutes for kneeing Patrick Watling – Steelers went close but again Weninger came to the Storms rescue.

Against the run of play, it was the Storm who took the lead early in the second period, Andreas Heier beating Matt Greenfield blocker side top shelf.

Steelers were still in control of the game but failing to convert their chances, then with just 16 seconds remaining in the second period, Captain Robert Dowd pounced to equalise (1-1)


With all to play for in the final period the Steelers came out firing and scored five goals before the end of the game.

43.50 and with Dallas Ehrhardt sat in the penalty box Brett Neumann scored a power-play goal assisted by Messrs Tansey and Vallerand (2-1)

49.10 Daniel Ciampini set up Josh Nichols for a nice finish to extend the lead to 3-1

51.03 and this time it was Stephen Johnson in the penalty box for holding and the Steelers truck again Saucerman and Vallerand set up Mitchell Balmas to make it 4-1

53.57 with Scott Allen ripping the puck top shelf from the slot to make the game all but over

58.38 and the final goal of the night scored by Kevin Tansey with assists to Matt Petgrave and Marco Vallerand for a final score of Steelers 6-1 Manchester Storm
