The Sheffield Steelers can today confirm that defenceman Kevin Tansey has announced his retirement from professional ice hockey, bringing to a close an outstanding three-year spell with the club.

Tansey arrived in Sheffield ahead of the 2023–24 season and quickly established himself as a key figure on the Steelers blue line. A dependable presence at both ends of the ice, his leadership, consistency, and professionalism made him a firm favourite with teammates and supporters alike.

A highlight of Tansey’s time in orange came during the unforgettable 2024 Grand Slam season, where he played a pivotal role alongside close friends and teammates Daniel Ciampini and Colton Saucerman. That historic campaign will forever be remembered as one of the greatest in club history, with Tansey at the heart of the team’s success.

Over the course of 201 appearances for the Steelers, Tansey recorded 35 goals and 58 assists for a total of 93 points—impressive numbers for a defenceman known just as much for his defensive reliability as his offensive contributions. Fittingly, his final goal in Steelers colours came on the biggest stage, finding the net in the 2026 Playoff Final against the Cardiff Devils.

The entire Steelers organisation have paid tribute to Tansey, recognising not only his on-ice contributions but also the character and commitment he brought to the locker room every day.

Kevin Tansey leaves Sheffield with the respect and gratitude of everyone connected to the club. We thank him for his incredible service and wish him every success and happiness in the next chapter of his life.

Once a Steeler, always a Steeler.
