Hat Trick for Balmas as Steelers Hit the Stars for Six

Outstanding Bounce Back in Dundee with a Greenfield Shut Out

Short handed Steelers bounced back after two defeats in Scotland on Friday and Saturday with a 6-0 shut out of the Stars in Dundee

Matt Greenfield recorded back to back shut outs in Dundee whilst Mitchell Balmas hit a hat trick in securing the victory

First Period

A long first shift as both teams were looking not to make mistakes early on, in fact it was 5 minutes before the first real scoring chance, Huttula’s shot saved well after fine work from Tait and Watling

Mitchell Heard found Juusola right in front of Friske’s goal but the Stars net-minder saved well.

Former Steeler Kam Kielly had a Grade A chance with Greenfield making the save to keep the game scoreless


13.25 and Watling with a burst of speed, Craig Moore was beaten and tripped Watling for the first penalty of the night.

Steelers two PP units both created chances and Friske was again called upon to make important saves, with a handful of seconds remaining Benjamin Almquist fired the puck over the glass, so a second power-play but this time our chances were limited and the Stars killed

Second Period.

Steelers out with purpose and meaning, Diffley shooting just wide in the first shift

Balmas was the trailer at 20.30 and Ryan Tait found him only for the Ice Man to score our first goal as he fired home past Friske

A scramble in front of the Dundee goal and Mikko just wouldn’t give up and eventually got his stick to the loose puck to double our advantage (0-2)

26.35 and Mitch Heard at his best holding on to the puck and waiting out the Stars, his shot was save but the rebound fell to Dominic Cormier who took the puck out of the air to fire home (0-3)

Dundee called a Time Out

Steelers completed the second period scoring at 35.17 when Ryan Tait converted from close range after some outstanding work from Jordon Southorn (0-4)

Steelers could have been further ahead after Boundens (high sticks) penalty, ample chance but the score remined

Stars 0-4 Steelers after 40 minutes

Third Period.

With Steelers leading by 4, the Stars needed to come out hard however it was Balmas who added to Sheffield’s lead in the 46th minute, Ryan Tait using his speed and the inch perfect pass to the trailing Balmas who finished for 5-0

Steelers had a power-play shortly after, however it was the Stars with the best chance, Greener however said “Thou shall not pass” on Dundee’s breakaway

54.51 and Huttula called for holding, the Stars gave it everything on their PP to break their goal scoring duck – they failed as the Kill once again was outstanding

Last goal of the night fell to Balmas who was located behind the Dundee goal, when he collected the puck he completed his wrap around to secure the 6-0 victory and his hat trick
