Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2016 NHL draft (69th overall)

It will be the first time in the UK for Canadian winger Cliff Pu when he touches down in Sheffield in time for the start of the 2025-26 Elite League season.

“I’d never thought of the UK to play hockey” said Pu “then when the opportunity came up I started doing some research and realised this was a great opportunity to play for a winning franchise as well as my get education with the University

“A former team mate of mine, Brien Diffley I saw had played in Sheffield and he was a reference point, he couldn’t have been glowing in his reference of the club, the team, the fans and the City

“I spoke with Aaron Fox and was impressed with what he had to say, especially about building a team winning environment. He told about the incredible atmosphere we would be playing in front of every night and that always excites all hockey players”

Describing himself Pu said “firstly I love to win, I work hard and I’m fast, I try and use my speed, I’ve always focussed on power skating and that has helped me create offence for my self and team mates”

Head coach Aaron Fox said “Cliff is coming in with a extremely high skill set.  

“He skates at an elite level and has played in some top leagues.    Cliff is a natural centre that can play both wing positions as well. His game will translate here to being a really productiveplayer that I think will be able to help our pp and play a top 6 role.  

“He’s coming in on a school deal which was a big part of his decision as well.   I’m looking forward to getting him in and working with him”.
