That feeling of knowing that Matt Greenfield is going to be a Sheffield Steeler until at least 2028, this comes after the league MVP signed a new 3 year contract with the club this summer.

Greenfield joined the Steelers 3 seasons ago on 2022 and has gone on to become the Elite Leagues MVP in the past two seasons

This on top of leading the Steeler to the 2024 Grand Slam and also becoming the leading goalie in the 2025 CHL championship.

Head coach Aaron Fox said “How can’t I be excited about this one. 

“Greener is the back to back league MVP and gives us top end play and a chance to win every night.  

“To get him back on a long term deal is an extremely important piece to our group for the short and long term.   Not only a great player on the ice but just a great person and teammate off it and in the room.  His level of preparation and professionalism is pure class. 

“I wasn’t sure if this was gonna be possible but after exploring some other options he felt this one was still the best  for him and his wife Sydney so I’m glad we could stay patient and get this done”.

Greenfield has played 158 Elite league games (in all competitions) in addition to 8 in the CHL

Confirming his return he said “The grass isn’t always Greener, as they say

“I weighed up my options and Sheffield kept coming back on top

“We have such a great group, my team mates, the coaches, management and ownership and of course the incredible fans. Knowing we will be together for three seasons is a great feeling”

Greenfield joined the Steelers in 2022 after two spells with the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL. This was after 4 years with the University of Calgary between 2016 and 2020.
