Steelers have confirmed that Robert Dowd will take over as club captain following the retirement of Jonathan Phillips.
The news was confirmed to over 3,000 Steelers fans at the clubs shirt launch at the Sheffield Arena on Friday evening.
Head Coach Aaron Fox confirmed that Scott Allen and Daniel Ciampini would be assistant coaches.
Dowdy said on stage “I’m humbled and honoured to be the teams captain, I think the fans know how much I love this club and how big a part of my life it is. Sheffield is home and where I want to be, having the captaincy is an incredible honour”
For his part Aaron Fox confirmed “It was not a rough decision, ever since I have been here Dowdy has been a leader and someone other players looked up to
“I like our leadership group with Scotty and Champ alongside Dowdy, I don’t think we could ask for three better men to lead us”
