Steelers Games This Weekend Postponed

League returns this weekend without the Steelers and Nottingham Panthers.

Following the tragic events last Saturday, the EIHL has confirmed that eight of the ten sides will return to action this weekend.

Games scheduled for mid week have been cancelled as well as Steelers and Panthers fixture at the weekend.

Steelers were due to play Manchester Storm at the arena on Saturday, before heading to Cardiff on Sunday for a league game. These games will now be re-scheduled with fans advised of the new dates in due course. Tickets already purchased for our home game will be valid for the revised date.

Elite League Statement

The following statement has been issued by the EIHL

Everyone connected with the Elite Ice Hockey League is still coming to terms with the events of Saturday night, and the terrible news that was published on Sunday morning. We would like to thank our fans and the global hockey community for their thoughts and wishes to Adam’s family, friends, and team mates; as well as to everyone involved in Saturday’s game.

The Elite League can confirm that games scheduled for both Tuesday and Wednesday will be postponed.

Earlier today, the coaches of eight teams consulted with their players about what should happen next. These teams expressed their wish to return to playing Elite League fixtures this weekend. Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers will not return to the ice this weekend, and we would continue to ask everyone to support these clubs through what is an intensely difficult time.

All games taking place this weekend will be organised with appropriate and fitting tributes to Adam Johnson. Please bear with us, as this needs to be an on-going process to ensure that all tributes have been agreed with those affected most deeply by what has happened. The Elite League will give further details of the planned tributes ahead of the weekend, and we hope that fans from around the league will feel able to come together to pay tribute to Adam as part of what is a very sad and difficult process for everyone.

The schedule for this weekend will be as follows:
